Severely Emotionally Disturbed Children - Healthcare Seminar

PROGRAM DETAILS

It Doesn't Have to be a Losing Battle
Many behavioral health professionals seemingly face a losing battle as the number of children with severe emotional disturbance (SED) continues to rise, while traditional resources in community mental health rapidly decrease. For children and parents/caregivers, the effects can be devastating – both physically and financially, according to some disturbing statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (http://www.cdc.gov/healthyyouth/mentalhealth/index.htm).

Helping children with SED doesn't have to be a losing battle. Treating severely emotionally disturbed children requires courage, passion, expertise, commitment – and the right tools. This program will provide participants with evidenced-based treatment techniques and diagnostic tools that can be put to use immediately to support these children and their families on the road to recovery.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

• Analyze the "hidden reasons" these children are so challenging for behavioral health professionals
• Determine evidenced-based, clinical interventions to treat symptoms often considered "untreatable"
• Determine the critical diagnostic criteria for severely emotionally disturbed children (SEDC)
• Diagnose and identify children who are severely emotionally disturbed
• Prevent escalation of symptoms of SEDC
• Determine predisposition and early interventions for children at risk
• Use innovative interventions to treat the presenting and underlying symptoms
• Help manage crises with the children and their families
• Give parents the necessary tools to help guide the child and family to recovery
