Health professionals and educators now, more than ever, face the uphill battle of working with disruptive children and adolescents from all types of backgrounds. Youth who argue at school or home or act out violently are a constant challenge for untrained, tired and busy parents. Managing at-risk youngsters is no longer the exclusive chore of parents. Educators and mental health professionals are being called upon to provide a framework for ending unmanageable problems and restoring respect for authority figures and self-control in these children. As the rate of violent crimes committed by juveniles increases, direct-care professionals have become the first line of offense in reversing bad behavior and halting children’s progression into the juvenile corrections system.
This comprehensive, hands-on workshop teaches scientifically proven methods that can be easily implemented to eliminate common maladaptive behaviors in the home and educational environments. It will demonstrate how to empower parents and other authority figures with functional and reliable steps for behavior management through reinforcement methods. Based on Dr. Ruben’s best-selling books, Bratbusters: Say Goodbye to Tantrums and Disobedience and Behavioral Management in the Public Schools, this seminar provides techniques to address behaviors such as tantrums, noncompliance, oppositional defiance, lying, sibling fighting, and insensitivity. Participants will return to their jobs with an arsenal of effective behavior changing methods to help rescue children and their parents from these feelings of helplessness.
