ACL rehabilitation protocols that many clinicians currently use were developed over 10 years ago. They required proof that a formal protocol update would benefit the patient. Recent trends in ACL reconstruction, as well as improved technology and surgical techniques, have allowed professionals a better understanding of the tolerance of protocol adjustments and updates. Efficient rehabilitation of the ACL requires planning and a sound protocol in determining the direction of care.
This one-day course will provide a thorough examination of the mechanisms, frequencies and trends of the ACL injury specific to sports, gender and age. Various surgical interventions will be presented, with biomechanical analysis of each. Rehabilitation protocols will be discussed and presented, utilizing trends discussed throughout the course. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of why they apply specific protocols, and which areas of their ACL protocols are subject to change. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN -
Apply skills toward making a concise and specific ACL diagnosis
- Examine recent trends in ACL reconstruction and their rehabilitation implications
- Demonstrate a greater biomechanical knowledge of the injured ACL
- Develop and construct ACL rehabilitation protocols based on current
interventions
- Review the anatomy of the knee, its associated neurological and biomechanical relationships and their effect upon normal knee and patellar function
- Demonstrate a structured, thorough evaluation of the knee that maximizes efficiency both clinically and on the field
- Discuss the efficacy of various structures utilized by physicians to reconstruct the knee joint and identify which are used most frequently
- Discuss general and specific research regarding surgical intervention, rehabilitation and applications to the ACL
- Design an ACL rehabilitation protocol by reviewing goals and outcome expectations and defining the timing of your treatment plan
- Explain the importance of clinical and training room efficiency and how it affects ACL treatment protocol
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Vincent Hudson, PhD, DPT, MBA, ATC, has been rehabilitating sports injuries for 25 years. He currently serves as Chief Operating Officer for OAA Orthopaedic Specialists in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He has worked with professional athletes in the NBA, NFL and MLB, including serving as Team Physical Therapist for the Orlando Magic and working with the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Phillies. Dr. Hudson has also served the athletic population at all collegiate levels, including University of Florida and Rutgers University (Division I), Cheyney University (Division II) and Delaware Valley College (Division III). He served as Program Director in Athletic Training and as Professor of Orthopedics in the School of Physical Therapy at the University of Central Florida.
Dr. Hudson holds several advanced degrees, including a PhD in Biomechanics from Harvard University, a DPT from Simmons College in Boston, an MS in Physical Therapy from Old Dominion University in Norfolk and an MBA from the University of Florida-Gainesville. He is licensed in physical therapy and athletic training. Dr.
Hudson's vast knowledge and practical experience in the world of rehabilitation and sports injury make him a first-rate instructor.
